In 2015, Psychotherapist Sindhu Nandakumar had a simple yet heartfelt thought: What if there was a space where people could lay down their burdens without fear or judgment? She created a one-page website that carried a message of hope and empathy:
This service was offered for free, connecting with people from all parts of the world using Skype. That was the quiet beginning of Svaastika.
The name "Svaastika" comes from Sanskrit and means "self-initiated," a fitting reflection of the journey.
Starting as a place for strangers to find an understanding ear, it grew into a charitable trust embracing causes that truly matter—mental health, animal welfare, nature conservation, human health, and more. It wasn't just about one mission; it was about meeting the many needs of the world, however big or small.
By its very first year, Svaastika had united 3,000 volunteers, all driven by the same spirit of kindness. For almost a decade, the trust relied entirely on personal funds, fueled by nothing but a deep desire to help others.
Then, in 2024, Svaastika gained official recognition with 12A and 80G exemptions, opening doors to reach even larger communities and make a greater impact.
Svaastika is more than a charitable trust—it’s a story of compassion, of the remarkable power one idea can have when it’s rooted in empathy. It’s proof that listening, caring, and acting can transform lives and remind people that they’re never alone.
